Frequently asked questions

About GIF Compressor and how Tarumak Studio works.

How much can GIFs be compressed?

It depends heavily on the source — a GIF with a lot of flat color and repeated frames can shrink dramatically (often 60–80%+) at the Balanced or Strong setting; a GIF that's already tightly optimized, or full of noisy photographic content, will compress less. The live stats panel gives an estimate before you commit, and the actual result is always shown after.

Will the animation be preserved?

Yes — frame count (minus any duplicates you choose to remove), timing, and loop behavior are all preserved. Removing a duplicate frame adds its display time to the frame it matched, so total animation duration doesn't change.

Can transparent GIFs be compressed?

Transparency is read and preserved during decoding. Very fine partial-transparency effects some GIFs simulate can be affected by aggressive color reduction, the same way they would be with any GIF re-encode.

Does it work offline?

Yes, once the page and its compression engine have loaded once, compression itself needs no network connection — decoding, palette reduction, and re-encoding all happen in your browser.

What's the maximum file size?

60MB — set by what a browser tab can reliably hold in memory while decoding every frame, not an artificial account-tier limit.

Does quality decrease?

Reducing colors and increasing lossy compression are real trade-offs — smaller files can show visible banding or dithering at aggressive settings. Light and Balanced are built to be close to invisible on typical GIFs; Strong and Maximum prioritize file size and will show more visible compromise.

Can I compress multiple GIFs?

One at a time currently. Batch compression is a planned addition — see the tool's roadmap.

Is my GIF uploaded anywhere?

No — decoding, analysis, and re-encoding all happen locally in your browser using a from-scratch GIF encoder/decoder built for this site. The file never leaves your device.

Is GIF Compressor really free?

Yes — completely free, with no usage limits, no watermarks and no premium wall. Every tool on Tarumak Studio is free to use.

Do I need to create an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email required. Open the tool and use it immediately.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser on desktop, tablet or phone — no app install needed.
